Kynara Arda

"It is not the things we let go of that defines us—but those which we choose to hold on to."

Kynara, at a glance

Standing at just over 70 ilms in height, Kynara ("Kih-NAR-uh") is on the shorter side for a Veena. Her ears, often swept back when at rest, are tinged with red and gold, sitting atop wild, wavy locks which tumble nearly to her shoulders. Her eyes, themselves bright pools of azure, are set about a soft, subdued nose. The freckles which dust her pallid face stand stark against Kynara’s snowy complexion, and a single beauty mark can be found just below the corner of her mouth. Her cheeks are oftentimes flushed with scarlet shades of varying depth.Kynara's frame is both short (for her kind, anyway) in stature and lithe in build; her slender form bearing some musculature and strength beneath the surface. While she possesses the same graceful, feminine beauty of her kin, her curves are subdued and modest. Much like her face, Kynara's arms, legs, and torso are dotted with ruddy freckles—as well as by myriad narrow, deep scars which have faded to a pale pink hue.Kynara’s bright, silvery voice bears the same foreign accent common amongst her people, and her body language is almost always emotive and easy to read. Her ears often motion in expressions of her mood, whether in an inquisitive flick, an annoyed twitch, a sorrowful droop, or an excitable flutter. Her eyes, in contrast to their calm, serene sky blue, are often alight with emotion, particularly when she is excited, concerned, anxious, or in deep contemplation.

About

Hidden beneath a cheery—albeit reserved—demeanor, Kynara's tale is not a cheerful one, nor even one she can always retell—for this Viera suffers from severe memory loss. She has, however, begun to unravel the secrets of her past—a journey which has proven nearly too painful for her to bear. Kynara's early life was spent beneath the boughs of a secluded forest deep within the Skatay Mountains, where her clan of reclusive Veena dwelled in harmony with nature. Kynara was raised to serve as a healer for her people, weaving aether and nature in tandem to mend and restore. Hers was a simple and yet happy life—though it would not remain so for long; the Garlean incursion into Othard saw her home and her people burnt to ash, leaving her as the only survivor of the all-consuming blaze. Shackled and enslaved by the Imperials, Kynara was taken as a prize and abused in all manner of unspeakable ways, leaving her mind to splinter and drift apart in order to survive the nightmare she found herself in.

Through the brave and selfless acts of a group of a group of adventurers, she eventually found herself free from her Imperial captors and living beneath the warm, welcoming boughs of the Twelveswood—and there she likely would have stayed, haunted by nightly terrors in which she relived the horrors of her forgotten past—had it not been for the chance, unexpected forging of dear friendships. Finding herself a member of a new (albeit smaller) clan at last, Kynara begins to travel with her friends across the breadth of Eorzea, in the process beginning to rediscover just who she truly is—and who she may become. At current, this red-headed Viera often spends her time in the Holy See of Ishgard, and the frosty Coerthan expanse which surrounds it. What she seeks out there—well, that is for her to tell.

Hooks

Kynara is a soft-spoken individual, bearing both hidden traumas and subdued passions. Curious, kind, and shy, it does not take much to spark this Viera's interest—nor to make her blush.

  • First and foremost, Kynara LOVES food. Trying new dishes, enjoying old favorites—both are easy ways to keep this Veena on one's good side.

  • Though Kynara was once shy and reserved, she has over time grown far bolder and more adventurous. Her once-meek and quiet personality has been bolstered by outgoing confidence and a strength of resolve she never would’ve dreamed of possessing.

  • Kind to a fault, Kynara is always happy to lend a fluffy, oversized ear (or two) to those who simply need someone to talk to. Her large, soft heart has room to hear out and comfort any who need it (as best she can, anyways).

  • Kynara has a desire to see the wider world and wonder at all that it holds—accordingly, she adores well-travelled adventurers who openly share tales of their journeys. She's always eager to listen to tales of swashbuckling adventure and exploration for hours-on-end—even if they are a bit embellished.

  • With a heart eager for adventure and a desire to expand her horizons, Kynara is often open to new avenues in life. Whether it’s a change of scenery or pursuit of a new vocation, Kynara throws herself at life eagerly and unabashedly, always seeking to strengthen her newfound confidence and self-reliance.

Out-of-Character

Hiya there! Below are a number of points I wanted to include from an out-of-character standpoint to provide an understanding of my roleplaying style, and how that applies to interactions with Kynara as a result.

  • I adore roleplaying and character development, both for Kynara and for those she interacts with. Whether a serious, plot-heavy interaction, or a lighthearted, casual experience, I endeavour to approach each encounter with respect—and I expect the same of those who choose to interact with Kynara. If for whatever reason you feel as though you are not receiving that respect as a fellow roleplayer, please do not hesitate to send me an OOC /tell letting me know so that I can be sure to be more considerate.

  • With regards to roleplaying styles, I often alternate between paragraph and short-burst methods as befits the situation, and try to adapt to other's preferred styles. While I prefer to play out Kynara's reactions to the actions of others purely from an in-character standpoint, I am also open to roll-based decision-making in certain scenarios.

  • Kynara bears many scars from her past, and accordingly some aspects of her character are intrinsically linked to darker subject matter. I myself am open to most matters of roleplay (as long as they are in good taste), but I will always strive to give a heads-up if I want to dip into darker, more serious matters for the sake of character development—and I will never be offended if someone doesn't wish to do the same.

  • I do not enjoy metagaming, godmoding, or the like—and I reserve the right to disengage from those behaviours at any time.

  • As always, in-character and out-of-character remain two separate things entirely. If someone has somehow managed to incite Kynara's ire, that in no way reflects my own feelings as a player.
